The wider adoption of electric vehicles has faced some barriers, but one of those has been rapidly melting away - the concept of range anxiety.
Previously, many people would be concerned that a lack of chargers in some areas, especially remote rural locations, would pose the risk of running out of charge and getting stranded out on the sticks.
However, this fear has been massively reduced by a huge rise in the provision of chargers in rural areas, a process that is continuing and will provide reassurance for EV drivers, both those living in such areas and those visiting.
For example, visitors to the Lake District will soon be able to take advantage of the installation of six chargers at Sizergh Castle near Kendal, which is conveniently close to the M6 motorway, with two more chargers planned for a supermarket car park in Ulverston, just south of the national park.
These developments are just the latest in a long line that has made getting around a mostly rural county like Cumbria easier for EV owners. Government figures show that the county went from having 150 chargers in October 2019 to 405 in April 2023.
Why Should You Still Get An EV Home Charger?
However, while the end of range anxiety is great news for anyone aspiring to own an electric vehicle, that does not mean you should just rely on public chargers. There are still huge advantages to having a home EV charging station.
The benefits of these include:
· No queues as the charger is always available for your use
· You can charge up overnight or whenever else is convenient
· Charging up can be cheaper as the station will store up electricity at off-peak times
Although this does come with an upfront cost, this will more than pay for itself through the lower cost, as well as providing the convenience you want.
Indeed, with a home charging station, you can enjoy the best of both worlds: You can start every day fully charged and that will usually be enough, and when you do venture farther afield, you can be sure of still having chargers nearby when you need them.
